Tula Pink HomeMade Challenge
Mar 3, 2020
Amelia’s Garden is so excited to announce its participation in the Tula Pink “HomeMade” challenge, sponsored by FreeSpirit Fabrics and Aurifil. Locally, one quilt will be submitted for the chance to be selected to hang as part of the HomeMade Challenge exhibit at the Fall International Quilt Market and Festival in Houston, TX in October 2020.
The challenge, curated by Tula Pink and other industry experts, celebrates all the elements which bind a creative community of makers together including Tula Pink’s new HomeMade fabric assortment and complimentary threads, available this month at Amelia’s Garden.
Tula Pink is the rock star of the quilting, sewing and textile world. She plays with images the way a poet plays with words. Her newest fabric collection, HomeMade, is a tributary on cloth of the things that drive makers to create with their hands.
The hum of a sewing machine, the repetitive motion of a needle and thread passing between the fibers of cloth, the accomplishment of making something with your own hands, these are the things that bind a creative community together . It defines the quilter’s very existence, expresses who they are and amplifies their sense of accomplishment and self-worth – the epitome of HomeMade.
The challenge encourages quilters to pay tribute to what drives the quilter/sewist/maker to create with their hands, through the creation of a 60” x 60” quilt featuring 80% of the new Tula Pink HomeMade fabrics and using Aurifil threads. The jury will look to select quilts that speak to the glory, attitude and beauty that comes from the privilege of saying “Hey, I made that.”
One first place winner will earn a prize package of over $10,000 including a BERNINA 570QE Special Edition by Tula Pink sewing machine, Tula Pink Fabric from FreeSpirit, an assortment of Tula Pink Aurifil thread collections and other related sewing and quilting products. One Viewer’s Choice, selected via social media, will win a package of sewing related items valued at over $1,200, as well as an Honorable Mention winner will receive a prize package valued at over $1,000.
The contest runs from March – June 30, 2020. For all details about this challenge, please click here
