Upcycled Hoodie Patchwork Pocket Class

Give your hoodie a fresh, quilty twist just in time for fall! In this fun, one-session upcycling class, we’ll swap out a floating pocket (meaning the whole pocket can be removed) for a colorful patchwork pocket made from scraps, mini-charms, or even selvedges. Along the way, you’ll practice ¼” patchwork piecing, layering and quilting a mini sandwich, and finishing with stitch-and-turn plus top-stitching. Batting pieces and a pocket template are included, so you’ll leave class with a cozy, wearable piece of quilty art, perfect for gifting or keeping!

Materials Required: Hoodie with detachable pocket – meaning it is not sewn into the bottom hem of the hoodie. Look in your closet, goodwill or purchase one (my favorite is the Amazon essential hoodie, but these do run small. I have a sample of the M of this hoodie in the shop).

What to Bring: Sewing machine with ¼” foot, walking foot or dual feed capable, mini charm or scraps to sew together – roughly a fat quarter size piece (18x20) as well as a backing piece for your pocket (also Fat Quarter size). Thread to match or contrast depending on your preference, rotary cutter or scissors for cutting out pocket template.
